Vhong Navarro Bail Petition: Court To Decide on Actor’s Request

Will Vhong Navarro get out of detention?

The Taguig Regional Trial Court (RTC) Branch 69 will decide on the bail petition that actor-host Vhong Navarro filed after a warrant of arrest with no recommended bail was served against him due to the rape case that model Deniece Cornejo filed.

Last September, Vhong was detained and he requested the court to post bail in order for him to get out of detention while still facing his legal battle against Deniece. Based on the article in The Philippine Star, the hearings for Vhong’s bail petition are already finished.

Deniece gave her testimony to the court at two different sessions as the prosecution’s third witness. Aside from the model, businessman Cedric Lee and a police officer by the name of Master Sgt. Rolly Laureto, who witnessed the mauled Navarro sign a blotter admitting to the rape of Cornejo, also gave their testimonies during the hearings.

To recall, Deniece and Cedric were convicted for grave coercion in 2019 which is related to Vhong Navarro’s mauling in 2014. Atty. Alma Mallonga, the legal counsel of the actor-host said that both camps have finished cross-examinations of the involved parties. Vhong attended all the sessions remotely.

Deniece is being represented by Atty. Howard Calleja. Previously, her legal counsel was Atty. Ferdinand Topacio, who represented prominent personalities in showbiz and politics. However, Topacio resigned. The lawyer said that there had been a “fundamental difference in the management of the case caused by certain people.”

Both camps are expected to submit evidence to the Taguig RTC 69 to help in the bail deliberations. Deniece’s camp requested the court to transfer Vhong Navarro to Taguig City Jail from the National Bureau of Investigation’s detention center.
