Maricar Reyes shared the details of what she went through 13 years ago
Actress-entrepreneur Maricar Reyes said that when the 2009 scandal happened to her, she did not realize at first that she was “the tax collector.”
Back then, Maricar’s character was starting to bloom as acting offers started coming in. However, an unexpected obstacle happened. A scandal involving her circulated online. She wrote her journey in dealing with this in the book she wrote.
In an interview on Toni Gonzaga‘s TONI on ALLTV, Maricar admitted that she was in denial at first. She questioned why this “panira” happened when she is about to soar high with her career as an actress.
Maricar tried to go on with her life, do her showbiz engagements, but every time she comes home and alone, the burden inside her was killing her. She admitted that she thought of ending her own life but fortunately, she did not continue with these thoughts.
The actress shared that she was smiling outside but the pain inside was excruciating. She shared that the change happened when singer Yeng Constantino became her roommate for a show abroad. That time, Yeng introduced the Bible to Maricar and her life coach.
One of the stories in the Bible that hit Maricar Reyes was about the Pharisee and the tax collector (Luke 18:9-14). She said that she got irritated after reading this story and did not know why. The actress read the said part several times until she realized that it reflected to what happened to her.
“Doon ako kinausap ni God na ‘feeling mo kasi ikaw ang teacher, you’re the tax collector,’” she shared. Maricar said that she did not see her part in what happened. From that, she realized that she was not as clean as she thought she was.
The actress also realized that she got to that point in her life because of her “choices that were not clean.” She admitted that it was very hard and painful for her to take. On the other hand, she felt that it was humbling.
“Feel na feel ko talaga na impressive ako on the paper but that’s what everybody sees, ang nakikita Niya heart ko,” Maricar Reyes said.
