Fil-Am Sailor Accused on Death of his Pinay Nursing Assistant Wife Pleads “Guilty”

FIL-AM SAILOR – US Navy sailor Jay Barcelon pleaded guilty to killing his Pinay wife who was working as a nursing assistant abroad.

In April 2021, a lot of Filipinos were angered by reports that a Filipina who was working as a nursing assistant in San Diego, California died and the one accused of her death is her own husband, a US Navy sailor.

The victim was identified as Rhona Fantone. She was a certified nursing assistant at Sharp Coronado Hospital and was on her way to be a nurse. She was one of the frontliners amid the fight against the COVID-19 pandemic. However, then, it was believed that she survived the risk of COVID but not the hands of her own husband, Jay Barcelon.

Jay and Rhona were four years married when the incident happened. It was previously reported that the couple were having marital problems prior to her death. Reports stated that the 30-year-old nursing assistant went home to pick up some clothes as she was planning to stay at her sister’s house which is 15-minutes away from theirs. However, she did not make it back.

Rhona Fantone has two (2) kids from her previous relationship. She was able to call one of her sisters who was just outside their home waiting for her in the car on the night of the incident. According to her sister, Rhona called her and kept on reiterating her request to tell her children that she loves them so much. Then, she called the police for help.

Initially, the Fil-Am sailor husband of Rhona Fantone pleaded “not guilty” to killing his wife. Based on a report on ABS-CBN News, he was in the custody of the authorities since that night with no bail.

Recently, a day prior to the jury selection phase, the Fil-Am sailor pleaded “guilty” to killing his own wife, a nursing assistant with whom he is married to for four (4) years already when the incident happened. He is sentenced for a 25-year imprisonment and is set to be sentenced on the 5th day of December 2022.
