Sta. Rosa City Rep Proposes 20% Discount for Senior Citizens Who Commit Traffic Violation

Lawmaker Files House Bill Proposing 20% Discount for Senior Citizens Who Commit Traffic Violation

Sta. Rosa City Rep proposed a 20% discount for senior citizens who will commit a traffic violation in Metro Manila.

Nowadays, the Philippine government and traffic authorities are implementing stricter rules and regulations to reduce the increasing rate of accidents in the country. The stricter traffic policy also aims to control the flow of traffic along the road.

However, there are still several Filipino motorists who accidentally commit traffic violations. Some senior citizens suffering from various diseases violate traffic policies without the intention to do it.

Traffic violators will be subject to corresponding sanctions and penalties.

Sta. Rosa City Rep. Dan Fernandez filed House Bill 5402 with the aim to provide a 20% discount for senior citizens who will commit a traffic violation. It also complies with Republic Act No. 7432 or the Senior Citizens Act.

Fernandez’s move aims to show their participation in the Elderly Filipino Week. He explained that many Filipino senior citizens choose to drive despite their old age. Most of them have slow driving reflexes and poor ability to sense their surroundings.

Once approved, the lawmaker will order the chief of Land Transportation Office and chairman of the Metro Manila Development Authority to implement the proposed rules and regulations for the elderly.

The discounted penalty fees can somehow ease the burden of senior citizens paying fine for traffic violations.
