Student Faces Disciplinary Action after he Makes Fun of Valenzuela City Mayor

Valenzuela City local government imposes disciplinary action against a student who makes fun of the announcement of Mayor Wes Gatchalian.

Wes Gatchalian, the mayor of Valenzuela City, used his Facebook page to remind local residents and students about using social media responsibly. Additionally, the mayor advised parents on his post to supervise their kids as they used the platform.

The reminder was issued after a student last week made an offensive joke regarding class suspensions in the comments area of a post on the local government’s Facebook page. The post was about the class suspension after the devastation of super typhoon “Karding” last September 25–26.

According to the city government, the student chided the announcement and called on the mayor through the comment section. He makes fun on the announcement saying “Mayor may pasok or magkakaroon ng funeral service diyan sa tapat ng bahay niyo?”

According to the report, the student’s parents requested a meeting with the mayor on Tuesday to offer their apologies following the incident. It further stated that the student and parents had already spoken with the school administration and that appropriate disciplinary measures had been taken.

“Maraming mga kabataan ang nagbibitiw ng mga hindi maayos na comments sa aming page kapag nagtatanong kung may pasok o wala, let this be a reminder na maging magalang tayo kahit sa social media. Okay ang magtanong pero huwag nating kalimutang rumespeto,” the city government said.
