Darryl Yap to Barbie Forteza in Maria Clara: “Nagulat ako”

Darryl Yap Lauds Barbie Forteza Over Her Acting Skills in Maria Clara at Ibarra

Controversial director Darryl Yap lauded Kapuso actress Barbie Forteza over her acting skills in the newest GMA TV series “Maria Clara at Ibarra.”

Last Monday’s premiere of “Maria Clara at Ibarra” was popular, and nearly every comment we read was positive about Barbie. Internet users praised Barbie Forteza (Klay) for her superb performance in the dramatic passages.

As she ended up ranting to her lecturer about her problems, Barbie’s character became popular for her relatable “real talk” phrases. Director Darryl Yap, meanwhile, had nothing but admiration for GMA’s most recent drama series, particularly Barbie, who he claims gave a flawless performance.

The director is renowned for being open-minded and truthful and for not merely praising what he observes. In fact, he frequently disparages Philippine teleseryes, labeling them as classless and cheap.

“Dalawang shows pa lang ang talagang wala akong pinalagpas na episode sa GMA7. 1. Ghost Fighter, 2. Starla and the Jewel Riders. Ngayon, katatapos kong mapanood ang unang episode ng pangatlo kong susubaybayan: Maria Clara at Ibarra,” said Yap on his Facebook post this Thursday.

He revealed the reason why he liked this series. “Hindi nakakabato. Hindi pilit ang lipad ng istorya. Hindi kailangan ng hype—maganda talaga,” said Director Darryl.

He praised the rest of the production crew, including the director Roanna Marie, Zig Dulay, and Suzette Severo Doctolero. He reportedly anticipates the upcoming episodes. He singles out Barbie among the cast of “Maria Clara at Ibarra.”

“Nagulat ako kay Barbie Forteza, she’s effective,” said Yap.

The cast also features Dennis Trillo and Julie Anne San Jose in addition to Barbie. Its central character, Klay, played by Barbie, who represents Gen Z, miraculously appears in Jose Rizal’s novel Noli Me Tangere together with other well-known characters, is the focus of the plot. It airs every day at 8 p.m. on the Kapuso network.
