Filipino-American Fashion Designer R’Bonney Gabriel Crowned Miss USA 2022
R’BONNEY GABRIEL – Filipino-American fashion designer R’Bonney Gabriel won the Miss USA 2022 crown.
R’Bonney Gabriel, a Filipino-American who was just crowned Miss Texas USA 2022, appears to be at least one additional contestant with Filipino ancestry competing in the upcoming Miss Universe 2022 competition.
At the Miss USA coronation night in Reno, Nevada, R’Bonney bested 49 other contestants. The Miss Texas USA 2022, a 28-year-old fashion designer who is the first Filipino-American to win the title, will now go to New Orleans, Louisiana to compete in the Miss Universe 2022 pageant on January 14, 2023.
Aside from being a beauty queen, R’Bonney Gabriel is also a model and owner of her fashion label R’ Bonney Nola. She also teaches sewing at Houston’s Magpies and Peacocks fashion house. She has previously posted videos of herself creating dresses for the competition on her Instagram account, including the one she wore for the Miss USA opening number.
During the question-and-answer portion of the pageant, she highlighted her skills in upcycling, claiming that it enables her to be sustainable in both her business and her home. She believes that initiatives like this one that is sustainable can help in the fight against climate change.
R’Bonney Gabriel will be going up against MUPH 2022 Celeste Cortesi whose winning question-and-answer focused on the significant influence her mother has had on her life.
R’Bonney stated in an interview with ABC News that she has a “big responsibility” to share her multicultural background and encourage people to embrace their identities. She was quoted saying, “I’m a very proud Filipina Texan.”
