Senator Robin Padilla Opposes Mandatory Drug Test for Artists

Padilla is Against the Mandatory Drug Test for Artists Before Taking Projects

Senator Robinhood Padilla opposes to the mandatory drug test for artists before taking any future projects.

In a statement, Padilla expressed his opposition to the idea of requiring performers to submit to drug testing before participating in acting projects. The senator, who is also a seasoned action star, asserted that no actor can be forced to take a drug test and that it is preferable if they do it voluntarily.

Padilla Mandatory Drug Test

Following the arrest of actor Dominic Roco and four other people in a buy-bust operation in Quezon City, the chairperson of the House Committee on Dangerous Drugs and Surigao del Norte 2nd District Representative Ace Barbers proposed that celebrities should undergo drug tests before they take projects, based on the report of CNN.

According to Barbers, all celebrities should abstain from drugs since they are idolized by the general people and will set a poor example if they engage in the illegal drug trade. The majority of artists, he said, are drug-free, but some have strayed and started using and occasionally even dealing with illegal substances.

Padilla added that it would be preferable for government workers and employees to go through drug tests first rather than artists. Government officials ought to go through it since it is their responsibility to set a positive example for Filipinos.
