Pinay OFW Lost Over P1-M to Alleged “Sorceress”

ONLINE SCAM – The Pinay OFW identified as alias Faye lost over P1 million to alleged healers and fortune tellers.

The poor overseas Filipino worker revealed that she had spent more than P1 million on products offered by a “sorceress”. The victim reportedly meet the alleged healers online for over a year.

Faye said that the products would give her protection against witchcraft and ‘gayuma’. She trust the person but the alleged sorceress threatened her.

“’Yung yung sinasabi niya kasi nga may protection… Na in case raw po sa kulam, gayuma… Masakit po sa masakit. Nagtiwala ka and everything tapos ikaw pa ‘yung… Nanakot pa po sila,” Faye said.

Another victim identified as alias Elvie mirrored Faye’s comments and claimed that she paid about P60,000 for such stuff as stones, amulets, potions, and dolls. Elvie claimed she was duped into purchasing from the suspect after he promised to ease her family’s problems.

“Nahulog lang ako kasi parang lahat ng mga charms na sinasabi niya, mga rituals, gawin mo to. Hanggang sa na ano ko na lang naubos na yung pera ko sa tatlong bangko ko na naipon,” Elvie said.

NBI Cybercrime Division Chief Supervising Agent Chris Pas said that the suspects will start with their engagements on popular social media sites offering products. Afterwards, the culprit will provide a site where their scam items are being offered.

Pas also advised the public to be more vigilant when having transactions online.
