PAGCOR Chair Appeals Not to Involved Legit POGO to Illegals

PAGCOR Chair Clarified Legit POGO is Not Involved in Illegals

Philippine Amusement and Gaming Corp (PAGCOR) Chairman and Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Alejandro Tengco clarified that legitimate Philippine Offshore Gaming Operations (POGO)is not involved in illegal operations.

Tengco said in a statement said that POGO had nothing to do with the shutdown of 175 illegal online gaming and 40,000 Chinese workers deported by the Department of Justice (DOJ) back to their country. Tengco announced this after legitimate POGO players were implicated in illegal offshore gaming companies.

“The agency emphasizes that any individual, group or entity which conducts online gambling without approval to operate from PAGCOR should not be categorized as POGO,” said Tengco in a statement.

He said, they strictly monitor POGO’s operations and any company that fails to pass PAGCOR’s application process to obtain an offshore gaming license and cannot comply with the documentary and financial requirements of the agency cannot be considered a legal offshore gaming operator. Tengco also assured that Pagcor is working on cleaning up POGO licenses amid calls to ban the operation of the multi-billion dollar industry in the Philippines.

Meanwhile, property consultant David Leechiu warned that it will cause a property crisis in the Philippines if the remaining 34 POGO players in the country are kicked out. This includes 127 accredited service providers and 5 special classes of Business Process Outsourcing (BPO).

He said, the P200 billion in government income from annual rent, tax collection, and consumption will disappear from the fired POGO workers. This is not the time to create a real estate crisis, on top of the other crises that we’re already facing, insisted Leechiu.
