Bato Dela Rosa is Open to Legalize Marijuana in the Philippines
Senator Ronald ‘Bato’ Dela Rosa shows support for the bill pushing for the legalization of Marijuana in the Philippines.
The former PNP commander stated during a briefing on the budget request of the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA) for 2023 that he is open to the legalization of the plant currently regarded as illegal in the nation. According to him, “medical marijuana” might be viewed as providing local farmers in the Cordillera region with economic benefits.
Dela Rosa, based on his statement, claimed to have discussed the issue with the regional director of the PNP in Cordilla, who also had some recommendations. He claimed that there was no way to stop the massive uprooting of marijuana plants and that there was enough of area in the Cordillera that would be ideal for marijuana plantations.
“Sabi niya kami dito wala na hinto ang uprooting ng marijuana volume volume at napakarami ang lupa ng Cordillera ay very fertile for marijuana plantation, kahit anong uprooting gawin nila, after how many months mayroon na naman,” said Dela Rosa in a Senate hearing. Wednesday, September 28.
“Kung ito ay exploit natin economically halimbawa maging legal medical marijuana, napakalaki source of income ng mga taga-Cordilera na kusang tumutubo dun sa kabundukan,” he added.
The senator went on to say that the government will make a lot of money from this. If we legalize it, the standard of living for the people in the Cordillera will increase. As long as cannabis is exclusively used medically, Dela Rosa said the suggestion was “eye-opening” for him.
I thus strongly endorse the proposal as the chairman of this Senate committee on public order and dangerous drugs, he declared. Dela Rosa asserted his confidence in the PDEA’s ability to effectively enforce and control marijuana use.
“Malayo naman ang distinction medical matijuana at recreational marijuana,” said the senator.
