1000 Ex-Members of MILF to Be Hired as Police Officers in 2023

Government to Hire 1000 Ex-Members of MILF as Police Officers in 2023

The government will make the 1000 ex-members of the Moro Islamic and National Liberation Front (MILF, MNLF) as police officers in 2023.

The government set aside money during budget discussions for the hire of 1,000 former MILF and MILF members as police officers the next year. A representative from Basilan and House Deputy Minority Leader Mujiv Hataman reported that the National Police Commission (Napolcom) tested aspirants to the police force in May.

Based on the report, 7,145 former rebels out of 11,033 passed the exam. Hataman asked the former MILF and MNLF soldiers to estimate how many of them will be allowed to enter this year.

The arrangement, according to Nueva Vizcaya Representative Luisa Loren Cuaresma, will result in the hiring of 5,000 former rebels as police officers. Cuaresma is also the budget sponsor for the Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG). The budget for this year is reportedly only for 300. According to Cuaresma, there is budget for 1,000 police officers for the upcoming year.

Hataman also requested a promise or assurance from the PNP if we can reach this goal of 5,000 within a five-year period beginning this year. Cuaresma acknowledged that the finances provided to the DILG are constrained but stated that it is trying to ensure that the 5,000 agreed to be taken will be finished. He said that he understood Hataman’s position.
