Cebu City Mayor Mike Rama Confirms Sinulog Resumes Physical Festivities In 2023
SINULOG 2023 – Cebu City Mayor Mike Rama announced Sinulog is set to resume its physical celebrations in January 2023.
One of the grandest and largest festivals in the Philippines is the Sinulog Festival. The festival is conducted every third Sunday of January to honor the Child Jesus. It is believed to be the protector of the city and its constituents.
The ceremony, which is performed through dancing, depicts the Pinoy people’s paganism and embrace of Christianity. Surely many people are wondering if the much-awaited event in Cebu will push through next year.
Based on a report from ABS-CBN, Cebu City Mayor Mike Rama announced that Sinulog is set to resume its physical celebrations in January 2023.
The politician made this announcement the day after the “Pasigarbo sa Sugbo, Festivals of Festivals” winners were revealed on Monday. After a two-year hiatus, the Pasigarbo event, organized by the provincial government of Cebu, was also held in person. Due to the COVID-19 epidemic, Cebu has been hosting virtual events in connection with the Sinulog since 2021.
According to the report, the Sinulog Foundation Incorporated established an executive committee to manage the return of in-person festivities.
“We are already setting meetings,” said Rama.
Rama wants to hold the Grand Parade and the Ritual Showdown at the South Road Properties to avoid any potential traffic congestion. The Cebu City Sports Center has historically hosted these celebrations.
The Sinulog Foundation is set to reveal additional festival events in addition to the traditional street dancing and ritual showdown. Additionally, the Basilica Minore Del Santo Nino Friars have not yet declared whether they would resume holding in-person novena masses.
