PAGASA Says Florita Leaves Philippine Area of Responsibility

FloritaPH – The state weather agency PAGASA reported that Severe Tropical Storm “Florita” leaves the country’s vicinity.

On Wednesday (August 24, 2022), the Philippine Atmospheric Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration released the latest weather update in the country. Severe Tropical Storm Florita will somehow affect the country’s weather condition.

PAGASA reported that Severe Tropical Storm Florita has been last spotted at 335 kilometer west of Calayan, Cagayan with maximum sustained winds of 95 kilometers per hour (kph) near the center and gustiness of up to 115 kph.

A state meteorologist reported that Florita is now out of the Philippine area of responsibility (PAR) but Tropical Cyclone Wind Signal (TCWS) No. 1 remains in 11 areas.

• Batanes
• Babuyan Islands
• Western portion of mainland Cagayan Apayao
• Abra
• Western portion of Kalinga
• Western portion of Mountain Province
• Northern and western portions of Benguet
• Ilocos Norte
• Ilocos Sur
• La Union

“Severe Tropical Storm Florita is forecast to move generally west northwestward over the West Philippine Sea towards the southern portion of China, where it is expected to make landfall tomorrow morning or early afternoon. It is also is forecast to re-intensify and reach typhoon category tonight,” Pagasa said.

Florita will still bring moderate to heavy rains over the Ilocos Region, Abra, and Benguet. The rest of the Cordillera Administrative Region will have light to moderate with at times heavy rains.

Meanwhile, the southwest monsoon will continue to bring rains over the western sections of Central and Southern Luzon.

However, Florita may still cause scattered flooding, including flash floods, and rain-induced landslides in areas prone to these hazards.
