Divisoria Vendors to Sale of School Supplies Before Class Opening: “Matumal”

Divisoria Vendors Express Dismay Due to Slack Sale of School Supplies This Year

Several Divisoria vendors have expressed their disappointment regarding the slack sales of school supplies before the class opening.

Numerous vendors in Divisoria, Manila are already expressing their dismay regarding the slack sales of school supplies this year. The class opening for public schools will be on August and some private schools will open their classes this month of July.

Some vendors revealed that they were not able to earn a lot compared to the previous year although Divisoria is very popular when it comes to school supplies.

“[Noong] mga nakaraang araw, minsan mayroon [benta], minsan wala. P190 lang ang benta. Mga panlalaki ang pinakamabenta, P10 lang ang pinakakita ng amo ko dito kasi ayaw niya magtaas [ng presyo] dahil sa kahirapan ng mga tao,” a vendor named Rizza Jane said.

Those who were in tight budget, there are stores in Divisoria offering affordable uniforms for students. Polo shirts for P260-P300 and blouses for P220-P250. Skirts usually cost P150-P260 and P180 for shorts.

Vendors can’t feel the spirit of back-to-school fever due to slack sales. Meanwhile, bag prices ranges from P250-P350 while shoe prices hit P350.

“Hindi pa masyado mabili kasi papalapit pa lang… mayroon na pakaunti-kaunti na bumibili. Mabenta ‘yong mga pang-kinder,” shoe vendor Christopher Galvez reiterated.

However, the vendors are still hoping an increase on their sales as class opening approaches.
