World Health Expects To See “High Levels” of COVID Cases in Europe this Summer

World Health Speaks on COVID-19 Cases in Europe

WORLD HEALTH ORGANIZATION – The WHO is expecting to see “high levels” of COVID-19 cases in Europe this summer.

More than two years ago, the world saw the beginning of a pandemic, the spread of the COVID-19 virus. The pandemic cost millions of lives across the globe, pulled the economy of several nations down, closed small and big businesses, and greatly affected the tourism sector in several nations.

The most dreadful thing about the pandemic is that people are dying away from their loved ones. There are restrictions implemented in different nations to fight the spread of the virus and there were instances when countries closed their boarders.

In the past few months, the cases of COVID in several countries dropped. It was followed by the easing of the restrictions in the pursuit to slowly go back to normal.

Amid the easing of the restrictions and quarantine measures in several nations, the World Health Organization warned that the pandemic is not over somewhere if it is not over everywhere. It reminded nations not to be complacent as there are still threats of the virus.

Recently, the World Health expressed its prediction that “high levels” of COVID cases may be seen in Europe this summer. Based on a report on ABS-CBN News, WHO Europe regional director Hans Kluge said that the easing of the restrictions that prevent the spread of the virus is the reason behind the possibility of another surge in the cases.

Kluge stressed that the virus will not go away just because nations are not looking for it. Currently, 53 European countries are recording just below 500,000 cases of COVID daily. It is more than triple from the 150,000 cases logged at the end of May.

Reportedly, France, Austria, Greece, Portugal, Cyprus, Germany, and Luxemburg are the nations with the highest case increase amid all the regions seeing a rise in their cases.
