Aiko Melendez holds no grudges against Ruffa Gutierrez and Lolit Solis
Actress-politician Aiko Melendez said that she remained friends with actress Ruffa Gutierrez and veteran showbiz writer-talent manager Lolit Solis even after the controversial Manila Film Fest scam in 1994.
Aiko won the Best Actress award but because of the scam orchestrated by Lolit, Ruffa’s name was initially announced as the winner. The said controversy turned 28 years on June 22.
Recalling what happened, Lolit said in an interview that it feels like it happened a few years ago. She can’t believe that 28 years have passed already. She also expressed gratitude those stars she were managing who chose to stay with her amid the issue.
Aiko Melendez did not dwell on that controversy. In an interview by PEP, she said that her friendship with Ruffa Gutierrez was not affected by the film fest scam.
“Wala namang nagbago sa amin ni Ruffa. Magkumare kami. Ninang siya ni Marthena and ninang ako ni Lorin. We still talk when we can. Sayang nga, hindi kami natuloy, magkikita kami dapat,” the actress-politician said, adding that she is happy that over the years and under different situations, she and Ruffa have maintained the friendship between them.
Aiko also said that there is no issue between her and Lolit. “OK rin kami ni Manay Lolit pag nagkikita kami. I pay my respect sa kanya,” she said. The actress-politician said that back then, their lawyers have advised them to file a case against Lolit but she chose not to do it because she respects the veteran showbiz personality.
Aiko Melendez is sure that Lolit Solis appreciates her gesture and her choice not to hold grudges. Meanwhile, after winning as Councilor in Quezon City’s 5th District, Aiko said that she will still continue to do some showbiz engagements.
