5 Filipinos in New Zealand Involved in Van-Truck Collision

FILIPINOS IN NEW ZEALAND – Five (5) Pinoys in New Zealand including a baby died in a road crash involving their van and a truck.

The road is one of the riskiest places on a daily basis most especially on highways where most vehicles are running at a fast speed. Every day, there are several road accidents happening across the globe involving different kinds of vehicles.

Reckless driving is often the reason behind these accidents thus every driver is always reminded to drive safely and with precautions. There are also other reasons behind these unforeseen incidents like factors affecting the drivers and the situations on the road.

Recently, in New Zealand, a collision involving a van carrying some members of the Filipino community and two (2) others and a truck took place.

Based on a report on ABS-CBN News, 7 Filipinos in New Zealand and 2 other nationalities were inside the van when it collided with a truck on State Highway 1 between Blenheim and Picton. A baby is one of the Filipino passengers of the van.

Unfortunately, the incident led to the death of five (5) Filipinos in New Zealand including the baby passenger. The two (2) other nationalities aboard the van also died from the incident. Two Filipinos survived the incident.

Based on the report, the Philippine embassy assured its readiness to assist the families of the victims of the road crash. The embassy said that it is already in touch with the New Zealand Police and other authorities. The officials of the embassy also visited the survivors to offer help and consolation. They are confined at the Wellington Regional Hospital.

“The Embassy is coordinating with (Department of Foreign Affairs) Headquarters as to the needs of the victims and their families,” the embassy assured.
