Nora Aunor Is Officially A National Artist for Film, Malacañang Declares

Finally declared a National Artist For Film is Nora Aunor, June 10.

NORA AUNOR – The National Commission for Culture and the Arts announced that veteran actress Nora Aunor is now a National Artist.

Nick Lizaso, the National Commission for Culture and the Arts chairman, announced on Friday, June 10, that veteran and award-winning actress Nora Aunor is now a National Artist For Film. She was declared a national artist along with others such as:

Fides Cuyugan Asensio for music
Ricardo Lee for literature
Gemino Abad for literature
Agnes Locsin for dancing
Salvacion Lim “Slim” Higgins for Fashion
Tony Mabesa for Theater

To recall, this title was elusive for the actress. In 2014, she got excluded by the Malacanang from the list which was then questioned by the NCCA. Other big stars were also disappointed at this decision back then. The reason behind this is linked to her issues about using illegal substances.

Meanwhile, Aunor’s career actually started as a singer. She debuted in the film All Over the World (1967) and since then, she starred in heavy dramas. It is no question how great Aunor is when it comes to drama and acting.

For her exemplary works, she received 17 FAMAS Award nominations and is a “Hall of Fame” inductee. She also won five Best Actress Awards. She is also the most-nominated actress in Gawad Urian having been nominated 21 times and won seven.

She also got eight trophies from PMPC Star Awards, eight from Metro Manila Film Festival, four from Luna Awards, five from Young Critics Circle Awards, one from the Cairo Film Festival award, one from the Asia Pacific Screen Awards, one from the Asian Film Awards, among others.
