No Flour Shortage in PH, Bread Price Hike Due to Inflation, According to PAFMIL
PAMFIL said that there is no flour shortage in the Philippines and explained that the bread price hike was due to inflation.
On Thursday (June 2, 2022), the Philippine Association Of Flour Millers, Inc. (PAFMIL) claimed that the increase in bread prices was due to the rising cost of necessary ingredients and not flour shortage.
PAFMIL Executive Director Ricardo Pinca said explained that they have a 90-day supply available at any time. Pinca said that bakeries have also adjusted the bread products’ prices to meet the end.
“Walang shortage sa supply ng harina. Malinaw ‘yan, mayroon tayong 90-day supply available at any time. Ang problema ay tumataas ang presyo ng lahat ng ingredients [sa] paggawa ng tinapay,” Pinca said.
Pinca also claimed that the Philippines is not directly affected by the ongoing problem in Russia and Ukraine wheat exports. He explained that the United States, Canada, and Australia were the three major sources of our wheat,
“Iyong mga bansa na bumibili sa Russia at Ukraine ay hindi na makakabili sa kanila. Kaya ang nangyari, nagpupunta sila ngayon sa US, Canada at Australia at doon sila bumibili kaya tumataas ang presyo,” Pinca added.
The war between Russia and Ukraine triggered the surge on prices of petroleum products and wheat, which may pose an alarming threat to global food security.
