DepEd Secretary Briones Says She Expects All Schools to Join In-Person Classes

DepEd Secretary Briones is expecting all schools to conduct face-to-face classes by June 2022 amid the COVID-19 pandemic.

The Department of Education wants all schools to resume personal classes by June 2022. Briones said that regional offices will observe different approaches and modalities in compliance with the Department of Health’s safety protocols.

Briones said that over 73% of public schools are ready for face-to-face classes as of May 26, 2022. She also advised the Education Department to encourage private schools to hold in-person classes.

“By June, which is already a few days away from now, sa next academic school year, ini-expect natin na fully 100% na talaga ‘yung pag-implement natin ng face-to-face classes,” Briones said.

Last week, the Department of Health claimed that face-to-face (F2F) classes are healthier for the students. DOH also claimed that in-person classes have many benefits also promote good physical and mental health.

DepEd Undersecretary Diosdado San Antonio wants the resumption of face-to-face classes with only a limited number of days. He would push this setup if the Inter-Agency Task Force for the Management of Emerging Infectious Diseases approved his proposal.

 “Tinitignan namin na blended na may face-to-face class na mga araw at may araw na papayagan na nasa bahay pa rin natututo ang mga bata,” Antonio said.

DepEd Undersecretary Revsee Escobedo will ensure the safety of the students once proposed face-to-face classes have been approved. Some schools also want to join in-person classes.

“Ang ating mga division offices sa guidance ng regional offices may kanya-kanyang guidelines na ipapatupad,” Escobedo said.
