Sheryl Cruz did not support Grace Poe’s candidacy in 2016
The past negative remark that actress Sheryl Cruz said against her cousin Senator Grace Poe’s presidential candidacy in 2016 was recalled.
Six years ago, Sen. Poe was one of the presidential aspirants. Unfortunately, President Rodrigo Duterte won the said elections and Sen. Poe was just a third placer.
Although Sheryl and Sen. Poe are relatives, the actress did not support the candidacy of the daughter of Susan Roces and Fernando Poe, Jr.
Sheryl Cruz is the daughter of Rosemarie Sonora, the sister of Susan. Just recently, Sheryl mentioned that she had a premonition about her aunt’s death. Susan passed away on May 20, as confirmed by Sen. Poe.
With this, based on the article by Pilipino Star Ngayon columnist Salve Asia, the past statement of Sheryl against the candidacy of her cousin was recalled.
Back in 2015, during a press conference for a movie in which Sheryl was one of the supporting cast members, she said that she was not in favor of Sen. Poe’s decision to run for president.
“I’m not belittling her capabilities. It’s just that she would be a more effective president come 2022 and not 2016,” the actress said. Sheryl said that her cousin lacked the needed skills to be the Chief Executive of the country.
The actress also said that her statement was from her own volition. “I’m not here for anybody’s gain. It’s not to further someone agenda or political career. Wala nag-uudyok sa akin para gawin ito. I have my own conscience,” Sheryl said.
The actress also said that her Tita Susan acknowledged that they have different opinions. “My aunt always respected our views and opinions. We may have different opinions of each other but at the end of the day, pamilya pa rin kami at blood will always be thicker than water,” she stressed in the said interview.
Asis said that the actress was not invited in the presscon and she entered in the venue coming from a different door. Sheryl Cruz and her mother did not attend Susan Roces’s funeral.
