Roro Vessel Catches Fire during Trip from Polilio Island to Real, Quezon

RORO VESSEL – The Mercraft 2 that was carrying 124 passengers from Polilio Island heading to Real, Quezon caught fire.

One of the most highly visited places during the summer season is Polilio Island in the province of Quezon. It is home to several beautiful places and it is two (2) or three (3) hours away from the mainland province, Real. It is one of the best places to visit for nature adventure – trekking, caving, island hopping, and a lot more.

There are two (2) ways to get to Polilio Island- taking a fastcraft which will take two (2) hours or a Roro vessel that usually takes three (3) hours to get to Anawan Port. There are specific schedules of trips.

However, this morning, a Roro vessel from Polilio Island caught fire amid its trip to Real, Quezon. The said vessel is the “Mercraft 2”.

Based on a post of ABS-CBN News, citing the information from the Philippine Coast Guard, the said Roro vessel that caught fire amid its trip to Real, Quezon left the island at around 5:00 a.m. One hundred twenty-four passengers were reported to have boarded the said vessel.

The cause of the incident was yet to be identified and the rescue operations are ongoing. Based on the post, so far, six (6) passengers have been rescued and were brought to the hospital. More updates may be posted soon.
