Rodrigo Rivera, Market Vendor in Dolores, Eastern Samar Wins Mayoralty Race
Rodrigo Rivera, market vendor beats his rivals and won over a doctor in the mayoral elections in Dolores, Eastern Samar.
The market vendor Rodrigo Rivera or popularly known as “Onoy” got 11,508 votes against Dr. Zaldy Carpeso’s 10,946. He has won the 2022 local elections with more than 500 votes against his rival.
The vegetable vendor who came from a poor family only finished the second year of high school because of extreme poverty. Rivera also served as a former punong barangay at barangay Bat-Ang before he became a vendor.
Onoy together with his family roam around the city and visited over 40 villages to reach out to more people. It wasn’t easy for him to campaign for having no sufficient funds to provide his necessities.
The vendor turned politician revealed that there were times when they would just be given food by their friends in the communities during the campaign period.
The newly-elected politician aims to help the less-fortunate people in the town and assist the poor to get out of the poverty line. His advocacy earned the people’s trust and make them vote for him.
Rivera proves that poverty is not a hindrance to serve the public and help other people. He showed that determination and hard work are required to acquire success.
