The cops were preparing charges against the suspects for violation of the Animal Welfare Act and Anti-Rabies Act. According to the reports, the suspects were selling dog meat to earn money.

“Mayroon din talaga tayong mga kababayan na nahilig sa karne ng aso po, kadalasan sir, mayroon ‘yung local ‘yung iba sir, dinadala po du’n sa Norte, inaakyat po ng Baguio” PNP-CIDG Bulacan P/Lt. Col. Dave Mahilum.

PNP-CIDG launched the operation after AKF received a report regarding the illegal operation of selling dog meat in the area. According to the investigation, the suspects were hunting stray dogs.

The culprits will purchase dogs from suppliers if they failed to find stray dogs along the streets. They were selling dog meat for P300-400 per kilogram. AKF also warned the public regarding the danger of consuming dog meat.

“Ang pagkain po ng aso ay delikado napakarami pong health risk involve rito, una po ay tinatawag itong maruming karne or contaminated meat, hindi ito fit for human consumption,” AKF Program Director Atty. Heidi Marquez Caguioa said.
