Broken-Hearted Woman Tightly Holds Stuffed Toy Given by Her Daughter Who Died Due to Landslide

A broken-hearted woman tightly holds her daughter’s stuffed toy after the young girl died during landslide in Baybay City, Leyte.

Earlier this week, Tropical Storm Agaton causes severe devastation over some parts of the country. The tropical cyclone brings heavy rains, which triggers massive flooding and landslides.

A lady named Maribelle Mejia cannot be separated from the stuffed toy given by her daughter. Maribelle’s daughter passed away due to landslide in Baybay City, Leyte last Monday (April 11, 2022).


According to Maribelle, she is always busy to her job and rarely return home because of her hectic schedule. Mejia’s daughter Maria Carla gave her a stuffed toy, which she could hug while staying on her boarding house.

“Mama, ilagay mo lang sa higaan mo kasi ‘yan ang magbabantay sa’yo kasi mag-isa ka lang, sabi niya. ‘Yun na din ang last namin na pagkita,” Maribelle said.

Maria Carla is one of two individuals who passed away due to landslide in Brgy. Maypatag, Baybay. The second victim was Maribelle’s younger sister named Rose. The tragic accident happened during the birthday of Maribelle’s beloved father.


A large portion of Baybay has been covered with mud after the ground collapsed due to heavy incessant rains brought by Tropical Storm Agaton in Visayas and Mindanao. About 90 percent of Barangay Kantagnos in Baybay has been affected by landslide.


The death toll continues to increase as authorities repeatedly performs search and rescue operation.
