MEDICOLEGAL EXAM RESULTS OF BORACAY TOURISTS – A tourist couple was found dead inside a hotel room on Boracay Island, Philippines.

A lot of people are visiting the famous Boracay Island in the Philippines during the summer season. In fact, there are a lot of both local and foreign travelers on the island even if it is not summer season. It is one of the most popular tourist destinations in the country.

Previously, Boracay Island was closed for at least six (6) months for rehabilitation. The said program was spearheaded by the Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR) which also moved for the closure of the hotels and establishments that are non-compliance with the environmental rules and regulations.

Boracay is now open and is one of the spots that are leading the revival of the tourism sector in the Philippines which was pulled down by the COVID-19 pandemic. Several hotels and resorts on the island are now operational.

However, recently, an unfortunate incident took place in one of the hotels on Boracay Island. Based on a report on Inquirer, two (2) tourists who were identified a couple were found dead inside their hotel room.

According to Malay, Aklan police chief Lieutenant Colonel Don Dicksie de Dios said they have ruled out the possibility of a third party in the incident. The couple was identified as Dennis Yu, an Australian businessman from Quezon City, and Maria Cecilia Jellicode, a Philippine-born from Brisbane, Australia. Both remains underwent a Medicolegal examination.

Based on the report, the medicolegal exam results of Yu and Jellicode were released. Both tourists who were found dead inside their hotel room on Boracay Island also went through autopsy and toxicology.

The medicolegal exam results of the two (2) tourists found Jellicode with “ligature marks” while cuts were found in Yu which are believed to be self-inflicted. The autopsy and the toxicology results showed that Jellicode died earlier than Yu. Both of their belongings including their money were intact.
