Atty. Luke Espiritu Speaks on Historical Revisionism
LUKE ESPIRITU – The lawyer and senatorial candidate for the May 2022 Election is pushing the fight against historical revisionism.
One of the elections that will be held this coming May is the poll for senators. There are several candidates seeking a senatorial seat and most of them are part of the senate slate of some presidential and vice-presidential candidates.
The candidates of the national elections are currently busy as many cities as they can to campaign to the voters. It was last February 8 when the campaign period kicked off. Aside from the campaign rallies, many people also await the debate events.
The Sonshine Media Network International (SMNI) held a senatorial debate. It gathered some of the candidates for senator including Atty. Luke Espiritu who made rounds on social media following the debate.
Atty. Luke Espiritu went trending after he slammed his fellow senatorial candidates, Atty. Larry Gadon and Atty. Harry Roque, on issues related to the Marcoses. He stressed to Gadon the number of victims during the Marcos regime while he emphasized to Roque that the former presidential spokesman was allegedly an anti-Marcos and a human rights defender before but his stand changed when he was given a slot under Marcos Jr.’s senate slate.
The statements of Espiritu caught the attention of the viewers and gathered different reactions from the people. It sparked curiosity about who he is – a lawyer and a labor leader.
Based on a report on ABS-CBN News, Atty. Luke Espiritu is one of those who are fighting against “historical revisionism” and he encourages the public to fight it by confronting it with the truth. According to the lawyer, the people are not excused from fighting disinformation although the alleged perpetrators of it are wealthy individuals.
“We have to confront it with the truth. Ang problema ang natin ang forces of revisionism ay maraming pera at the disposal,” the lawyer said.
Atty. Espiritu is encouraging the Martial Law victims to speak up and explain their experiences to the new generation. With regards to his performance during the debate, the lawyer stressed that he was “duly-bound to refute” the alleged lies and those that he does not believe in. He is pushing for defense against lies and disinformation with the truth.
