Why did Willie Ong choose to be the running mate of Isko Moreno?
Doctor Willie Ong shared his reason why he did not run for Senator despite initial surveys showed that he is among the top 12 choices of the voters to be in the Senate.
Many supporters of the cardiologist were expecting that he will run for senator once again in the 20222 elections. However, many were also surprised that he was named as the running mate of Manila Mayor Isko Moreno.
In a recent interview, based on the report from Manila Bulletin, Dr. Willie Ong said that he was offered by the mayor to help him win the presidential race. “Sabi ni Mayor Isko, if you join me, you can handle the health sector, you want to save millions of lives, magagawa mo,” the doctor shared.
With her desire to help the people, especially the poor, Doc Willie said yes to the offer of the Manila Mayor. His goal to be of help was what pushed him to decide to be the running mate of the Mayor Isko.
The doctor is proud to say that for two decades, he has been helping a lot of people through his profession and he is doing his duties as a doctor without fee. Aside from giving medical advice to people, Doc Willie also give free medicines for high blood pressure and diabetes.
His number one aim in entering politics was to give attention to the medical needs of the Filipinos, especially that the country is suffering from the pandemic. “Why not build hospitals so we can save more lives. So that’s the only reason I went into politics,” Dr. Willie Ong said.
