Manny Castañeda Slams Pinklawans, Defends Toni Gonzaga from Criticisms
Veteran director Manny Castañeda has defended TV host Toni Gonzaga after being criticized by “Pinklawans” over support to Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr.
The well-known filmmaker has resorted to social media to express his side, defending controversial TV host Toni Gonzaga from critics. Toni recently elicited reactions online after hosting the UniTeam proclamation event of the former Senator and Davao City Mayor Sara Duterte at the Philippine Arena on February 8, 2022.
Toni, a prominent Kapamilya host, was ‘canceled’ on social media for expressing support for Marcos and Duterte. Co-stars and other internet users, particularly supporters of Marcos’ presidential rival Leni Robredo, have chastised the TV host.
Meanwhile, Manny Castañeda has backed her, criticizing the “pinklawans” or “kakampinks” for their toxic attitude and cancel culture. Many artists and others in the showbiz sector, including Toni, apparently did not vote for Robredo but opted to keep silent because of the ‘Pinklawan,’ according to his social media post.
“Tulad ni Toni Gonzaga, maraming mga artista at mga taga showbiz ang hindi boboto kay Leni Robredo pero tahimik lamang sila dahil sa mga Pinklawan na masyadong agresibo, palaaway, at saksakan ng bastos,” said the director.
He added, “At kapansin-pansin din na lalong dumarami ang mga artista na umaayaw kay Leni dahil sa mga masamang ugali ng mga Pinklawan.”
Meanwhile, Toni made a formal statement on her departure from ABS-CBN’s reality show Pinoy Big Brother (PBB) on Wednesday, February 9. Toni Gonzaga added that being on the program for 16 years has been a big honor for her and that she has had many fond experiences there.
Netizens and fellow celebrities reacted to her tweet. Bianca Gonzales, Gretchen Barretto, Mariel Rodriguez, and her sister Alex Gonzaga were among the celebrities that responded to her post.
