She emphasized that the propagation of false news continues to grow in the country owing to a lack of initiative to hold its purveyors accountable. The vice president said that he had filed many complaints with a government entity that he declined to name, but that “no action has been done.”

“Meron na kaming nireklamo before. Wala pang aksyon,” said Robredo.

All they can do, according to the wannabe president, is report and correct phony news. According to her, the result of disregarding fake news is that people’s mindsets and views are being manipulated, and we can see it now.

The opposition leader went on to say that she had not seen any initiative from the government to stop the spread of fake news, which she said was “out of their control.” Robredo cited fake news about martial law enforcement and lockdown as examples of fake news that spread amid the proliferation of new cases of coronavirus disease (COVID-19).

She emphasized that such actions “only creates panic among the public,” spurring panicked purchases of basics and medications. Because “fake news reporters are not held accountable,” she added, falsehoods like this will spread.
