Malacañang Announces Alert Level in Metro Manila Starting February 1

Malacañang Speaks on Restrictions in Metro Manila from February 1-15

MALACAÑANG – The Palace announced the alert level in Metro Manila starting February 1, 2022 until February 15, 2022.

The recent spike in the COVID-19 cases in several cities in the capital region urged the authorities to place the entire Metro Manila under Alert Level 3. Initially, the measure was set starting January 3 until January 15 but it was extended until the end of the month.

Under the Alert Level 3, the operating capacity of restaurants and other establishments was reduced to 30% for fully vaccinated individuals. The Department of Transportation (DOTr) also implemented the “No Vaccine, No Ride” policy.

The said DOTr policy gained different reactions from the public. The Department placed exemptions which include the essential workers.

The Department of Health (DOH) previously confirmed that the COVID-19 cases in Metro Manila have reached their peak. Recently, Malacañang spoke on the alert level in the capital region as the initial curb expires.

Based on a report on ABS-CBN News, Malacañang is placing Metro Manila under Alert Level 2 starting February 1 until February 15. It was confirmed by acting presidential spokesman Karlo Nograles.

Under Alert Level 2, the conduct of limited in-person classes is allowed and the operating capacity of businesses is also increased. Furthermore, the DOTr expressed that the “No Vaccine, No Ride” policy will no longer be imposed under Alert Level 2.

With regards to the mobility of minors, according to Department of Interior and Local Government (DILG) Secretary Eduardo Año, it will depend on the ordinances imposed by the local government units. According to him, the decision of the national government to ease the restrictions stemmed from the improving situation in the capital region.

Año stressed that the government will continue to monitor the situation amid the easing of the restrictions. He also expressed that LGUs may impose ordinances if adjustments are needed.
