Venus Raj shared her pageant journey
Miss Universe 2010 fourth runner-up Venus Raj shared that she had her “Pia Wurtzbach moment” when she joined a beauty pageant for the first time.
Venus is considered to be the beginning of the pageant streak of the Philippines. From the time she represented the country in the most prestigious beauty pageant in the world, the Philippines is always reaching the Top 20 spot.
During a recent interview on Toni Talks, the YouTube talk show of actress-host Toni Gonzaga, Venus Raj revealed that her first pageant was when she was just in Grade 5. Her teacher appointed her to be the representative of their grade level. Venus said that she can’t recall if that was for the United Nations event or Linggo ng Wika. “This was my Pia Wurtzbach moment,” she shared recalling that the host already called her the winner.
However, their principal went up the stage and corrected the result. “Mali, mali yung result,” Venus recalled what their principal said. The flowers were taken from her and were given to the sixth-grader.
It is known to many pageant fans that during the time of Miss Universe 2015 Pia Wurtzbach, her name was first announced as the first runner-up but it turned out that she won the crown.
When Toni asked what Venus felt after that, the latter said that it was not a big deal for her back then. The former beauty queen said that there was no sense of competitiveness yet in her at that time.
She also shared that the idea of beauty pageants was just instilled in her mind when Miss India Sushmita Sen was hailed Miss Universe in 1994 and it was held in the Philippines.
Then, Venus Raj talked about the time when she was crowned Binibining Pilipinas-Universe in 2010. After the coronation, her nationality was questioned and she faced the possibility of being dethroned. She said that at this time, it was something that she really took seriously unlike the time when she was in grade school. Toni said that with this, Venus experienced two “Pia Wurtzbach moments”.
