Drunk Motorcycle Rider Jailed After 2 Police Officers Hit While on Duty

Two (2) police officers were rushed to hospital over injuries after they were allegedly hit by a drunk motorcycle rider during duty.

When a motorbike rider ran over two police officers monitoring the southbound lane of Quezon Boulevard in Quiapo, Manila, they were both injured. PCpls. Benjamin de Guzman, 47, and Ronel Yambao, 32, both of Manila Police District-Police Station 3, were arrested.

Ronald Asquivel, 35, an internet installation and vendor who lives at 42 Kahunari St. in San Jose, Navotas City, was apprehended. The incident occurred about 2:30 a.m. in the aforementioned neighborhood, near the Quiapo Church, according to the MPD report.

According to PSSg Neil Mark E Mabasa of the Manila District Traffic Enforcement Unit (MDTEU), both of the victims were on duty in the area before to the tragedy, maintaining security around the Quiapo church. The culprit appeared on a gray Yamaha Sporty Mio with the MV File No. 1336-0474485 and struck the two cops.

The two police officers were found laying on the ground with multiple injuries after being slammed by the intoxicated motorcyclist. They were brought to the hospital for injuries after being rescued by their fellow officers and two.

When the suspect was apprehended, an alcohol breath test revealed that he had consumed alcohol. The suspect has already been arrested and charged with Reckless Imprudence Resulting in Multiple Physical Injuries as well as violating Republic Act 10586, often known as the Anti-Drunk and Drugged Driving Act of 2013.
