Gary Valenciano is the latest guest of Toni Gonzaga for “Toni Talks”
Mr. Pure Energy Gary Valenciano made revelations about Concert King Martin Nievera and Concert Queen Pops Fernandez.
Gary sat down with Toni Gonzaga for the recent episode of her interview vlog on YouTube. The seasoned performer talked about his life before he made it big and the moment he got his first opportunity to perform on TV.
Through the show of Pilita Corrales and her daughter Jackie Lou Blanco, Gary had his first TV performance with La Salle Kundirana. Pilita asked him if he can return to show as a soloist and he did because he like that experience of performing.
When he finally decided to pursue a career as a performer, he was supposed to have his TV launching through the Penthouse Live show of Martin Nievera and Pops Fernandez.
Gary Valenciano recalled that the first time he was supposed to guest on the show failed because his “minus one” encountered a problem. He shared that he was excited about that because “at that time”, everyone had a crush on Pops and he was one of those boys who admired the Concert Queen.
“Hiyang-hiya ako, kasi at that time, everybody had a crush on Pops Fernadez, including me. So, I was there on stage and I saw her, I said, “Uh, I’m gonna perform this song and there she is,” the seasoned singer shared. Unfortunately, that “first time” was postponed and he just came back on the show the following week.
When it comes to Martin Nievera, one of his best friends in the entertainment industry, Gary Valenciano admitted his insecurities back then. “One of my biggest insecurities is one of my best friends, Martin Nievera,” Gary said that at that time, Martin would release new songs that would become hits. Admittedly, he said that he will never have the voice of Martin and that made him say, “I can’t sound like that.”
