PNP Warns Public for Posting Holiday Vacation Photos on Social Media

PNP Warns Public vs Oversharing of Holiday Vacation Photos on Social Media

The Philippine National Police (PNP) has warned the public to avoid oversharing holiday vacation photos on social media platforms.

PNP spokesperson Col. Roderick Alba, in a Laging Handa briefing, issued a caution to the people who plan on attending holiday activities outside of town. According to him, such behavior provides crooks with a hint and an opportunity to break into homes while their owners are abroad.

“Halimbawa iwanan natin yung ating property, kabahayan, we should not report real-time or mag-post ng real-time sa social media kung saan po kayo pupunta o naiwanan yung bahay niyo because that only gives opportunity or motive yung mga kababayan natin na pagtangkaan, nakawan,” Alba said.

He went on to say that if there are no individuals in the house, local neighbors should be notified so they can care after it. In the midst of the predicted rush to bus terminals, airports, and seaports for the New Year vacation, Alba stressed the need of “light travel.”

“Huwag magdala ng napakaraming personal property, mga alahas, pera. When you travel, you travel light and of course, you should report. May mga hotline yung ating PNP sa ating E-Sumbong platform na kailangan pong i-report, makita,” he added.

He urges the public to stay attentive so that the situation does not escalate into a serious crime. To avoid catastrophes, Alba also encouraged those attending holiday celebrations not to drink and drive.
