Pia Wurtzbach Opens Up About Past “Abusive” Relationship
PIA WURTZBACH – Fil-German actress and beauty queen Pia Wurtzbach was praised for opening up about her past “abusive” relationship.
Pia Wurtzbach was the third Pinay to win the Miss Universe title. A day before the Miss Universe 2021 coronation night, she shared on IG a couple of stunning photos of her wearing the Mouawad tiara. It was given to the pageant’s title-holders to remind them of their reign.
On Friday, December 10, the 32-year-old beauty queen uploaded a video of her first-ever TED talk on her Youtube Channel. She opened up for the first time her mental health struggles, which led her to self-harm and anorexia.
In the 16-minute video, Pia Wurtzbach talked about being raised by a single mother, being a breadwinner at a young age. Among the past pains that marked deep was her first serious relationship.
Pia recollected how her ex-boyfriend implicated massive damage to her life. She blatantly described it as “abusive.”
“My first serious relationship was an abusive one and it was one of the hardest times of my life. I was psychologically manipulated, physically, mentally, and psychologically. I was drained,” Pia said.

Pia Wurtzbach admitted that said she stopped her life and gave everything to him because she was manipulated. She said, “he made me quit my job. I stopped seeing my friends. I stopped making my own money. I gave him everything I had, financially, mentally, emotionally, I gave it all. The best thing I did was to find the courage to break up with him and jump into my passion, pageants.”
Also in her talk, the beauty queen admitted for the first time how far her mental health problem thrive. Hence, Pia became an advocate for mental health awareness. She uses her voice to encourage everyone to not be afraid to ask for help.
