4 Sabungeros Betting on Unauthorized “Online Sabong” Nabbed in Pasay

4 Sabungeros Arrested for Betting on Unauthorized “Online Sabong” in Pasay City

Pasay City authorities arrested four (4) sabungeros after allegedly caught betting on unauthorized “online sabong” or online cockfight events.

One of the suspects acknowledged that what they were doing was wrong, but that is how Filipinos are in general. Four males were arrested in Barangay 201 in the aforementioned city Monday night, according to a GMA news report.

They were the only ones betting outside of off-cockpit betting stations (OCBS) or permitted wager bets, and their wagering was unregulated. The extended line was linked by one of the detainees to an online cockfighting wager.

“Nagsesenyasan lang po kasi nga maraming tumataya, hindi na umaabot. May oras po kasi,” said the suspect, Rolando Reyes.

They said that they were aware that what they were doing was illegal, but that due to the rapidity with which they could bet, they simply made some tactics to verify their bets. He further stated that illicit betting has a cashier, but that because to overcrowding, the bettors must put their bets on their own.

“May cashier po sila. Siyempre sa dami ng tao roon, punong-puno siya, alam niyo naman po kapag ganoong sabong, maraming sabong. Pilipino kasi, siyempre hindi maiwasan ‘yung magkatawaran pa rin ng ganoon kahit alam na mali. Inaamin naman namin na mali kami kasi nandoon na eh. Hindi naman po kami ano kasi talagang Pilipino eh,” Reyes said

Many more gamblers were not caught, according to another arrested sabungero. Those detained will face charges of breaking Presidential Decree 1602.

According to the Pasay Police, PAGCOR has approved OCBS as an online cockfighting betting site. Gamblers can also load and play using their cellphones through registered pitmaster agents.
