Mayoral Candidate in Ozamiz City who Charged with Murder Arrested by Authorities

Former vice mayor and now a mayoral candidate in Ozamiz City has been arrested by the authorities over an alleged murder charge.

The former vice mayor, who is currently running for mayor of a town in Lanao del Sur, was arrested by the Ozamiz City Police Station and the Criminal Investigation and Detection Group (CIDG). The operation was prompted by the murder charge leveled against him.

Alinader Balindong alias Badar, 67, a former deputy mayor of Picong, Lanao del Sur, and currently a contender for mayor of Malabang, Lanao del Sur, was detained. Balindong was apprehended on a murder warrant issued by Judge Alberto Quinto of the Malabang RTC.

The case has no equivalent bail set aside for it and is being suggested for a P200,000 bail. Balindong’s case is linked to the assassination of Malabang’s market administrator in Lanao del Sur in 2020.

According to the report, Balindong was apprehended by the CIDG Provincial Field Unit and Ozamiz Police at the Misamis University Medical Center in Barangay Bagakay, Ozamis City, where it is being held under hospital detention at the request of its lawyer in court.

Meanwhile, in the central Philippine town of Catarman, a gunman shot and murdered an elections officer. An unknown assailant shot the victim at close range while riding his motorcycle home in Catarman, Northern Samar province, on Thursday.

He was taken to the nearest hospital, but physicians declared him dead upon arrival. The Comelec Employees’ Union condemned the assassination of Mahanoy, who worked as an election officer in the town of Lope de Vega.
