PSC Demands Obiena, PATAFA To Stop Feuding In Public
OBIENA/PATAFA ISSUE – The Philippine Sports Commission demanded Olympian EJ Obiena and the Philippine Athletics Track and Field Association (PATAFA) stop feuding in Public.
An extremely disheartened Obiena came forward to the public addressing his issues with PATAFA. According to the commission, Obiena was involved in embezzling funds. But, after this was refuted, PATAFA changed their story and said Obiena paid late.
In turn, this led to Obiena calling out PATAFA for their actions. Because of the highly-publicized issue, netizens expressed anger toward PATAFA.
Now, the PSC itself chimed in and demanded the parties from “issuing statements to the public and social media”. According to an article from ABS-CBN, the PSC already had a series of separate dialogues with both parties.
Furthermore, they emphasized that they already have a “quick and just resolution” in mind. As per the article, the PSC said:
We now demand the parties to refrain from issuing statements to the public and on social media. We hope the imposition of this moratorium will allow this proposed dialogue a chance to help all of us arrive at a proper resolution on this matter
However, the PSC said that if the option fails, the body would need to implement sanctions that can give a strong negative impact on the concerned federation.
PATAFA initially ordered the Olympian to return 85,000 Euros (P4.8 million) that was supposed to be the salary of his coach, Petrov. As a response, Obiena denied allegations and presented Petrov who confirmed that he had already received payment.
But, according to PATAFA Chief Philip Juico, the money paid to Petrov came from several sources, not the federation. As per the article, he said:
Nu’ng ibinayad na sa kanya (the coach), galing sa iba-ibang sources, hindi galing sa ibinagay na pera ng PATAFA
