Mayor Sara Duterte Resigns from Hugpong ng Pagbabago To Join National Party
HUGPONG NG PAGBABAGO – The regional political party founded by Davao City Mayor Sara Duterte was surprised by her resignation.
The recent moves taken by Davao City Mayor Sara Duterte sparked a lot of reports and elicited different reactions from the people including the presidential aspirants in 2022. The presidential daughter withdrew her candidacy for re-election next year igniting speculations that she will run for a national post.
Prior to it, Mayor Sara Duterte asked understanding from her supporters saying she wants to finish three (3) terms as Davao City mayor. She filed her COC as the standard-bearer of the regional party she founded, Hugpong ng Pagbabago.
Mayor Inday Sara withdrew her bid for re-election and endorsed her younger brother, Davao City Vice Mayor Baste Duterte, for mayor. Based on a report on ABS-CBN News, HNP confirmed that he already joined their party to be able to substitute to his sister’s supposedly mayoralty bid.
After withdrawing her candidacy for mayor in the Election 2022, Davao City Mayor Sara Duterte resigned from Hugpong ng Pagbabago. Based on the report, the regional party she founded was surprised by her decision to resign.
According to HNP Secretary-General Anthony Del Rosario, they were not able to talk because the Davao City Mayor has been traveling. She recently went to Balesin to attend a birthday party and went to Cavite to attend a wedding where she is one of the sponsors.
Del Rosario further expressed that the officers nor the members of HNP need to confer with the Mayor on the reasons why she left their political party. Meanwhile, he recognized that she needs to join a national party if she wants to run for a national position.
Based on the report, Del Rosario assured that Hugpong ng Pagbabago will support whatever the decision of Mayor Sara Duterte will be. He believes that the Davao City Mayor resigned from their party first to avoid conflicts by the time she wants to join another party.
As of this writing, the Davao City Mayor has yet to speak on her recent actions. She’s asked by press but she maintains to refuse from commenting. More updates may be posted soon.
