PNP Chief Urges Cops to Start Nighttime Patrol After Gov’t Allows Street Caroling for Christmas Season

The Philippine National Police (PNP) Chief has urged the police officers to start nighttime patrols to monitor Christmas caroling.

On Thursday (November 11, 2021), PNP Chief Police General Guillermo Eleazar has ordered the police force to undertake Christmas caroling. Cops would start their nighttime patrols after the government approved the street caroling for the upcoming Christmas season.

Eleazar explained that the nighttime patrols are required to monitor the carolers and ensure that the health protocols will be observed. He also wants to the security and safety of both audience and carolers.

“Inatasan ko ang ating kapulisan na mag-umpisang magsagawa ng mga patrolya tuwing gabi para sa seguridad ng mga nangangaroling at para na rin siguraduhing sumusunod sila sa health protocols,” Eleazar said.

The PNP chief has reminded the public to strictly observe the minimum health protocols and quarantine guidelines amid the coronavirus pandemic. He also advised the Filipinos not be complacent although cases of COVID-19 decreases.

“Kahit pa bumababa ang kaso ng COVID-19, hindi ito dahilan upang maging kampante at magpabaya sa pagsunod sa minimum public health standards.” Eleazar added.

Last Wednesday (November 10), the Department of Health (DOH) announced that the traditional Christmas caroling will be allowed this year. However, carolers should wear their face masks and face shields during performance.

Health Undersecretary Maria Rosario Vergeire explained that COVID-19 transmission’s risk increases whenever someone sings for expelling more respiratory droplets.
