Cebu City Mayor Says ‘No Jabs, No Christmas Bonus’ for City Hall Employees

Cebu City Mayor Set To Impose ‘No Jabs, No Christmas Bonus’ for City Hall Employees

Cebu City Mayor Michael Rama announced that City Hall employees will not receive the P20, 000 Christmas bonus unless all have been fully vaccinated.

Earlier, the Department of Justice has rejected the proposed “No vaccine, no 4Ps subsidy” policy of the interior department. Malacañang Palace also admit that the plan could face legal obstacle.

Last Monday (November 9, 2021), Rama said that he would implement ‘no vaccine, no Christmas bonus’ policy for the city hall employees. He required all employees to receive their COVID-19 vaccines before releasing the bonuses.

“Bonus will be granted for all… But as I’ve said…no release of bonus unless all have been fully vaccinated,” Rama said.

The mayor explained that the government does not need such policy to set themselves as example to their constituents. Government employees should obey the policy first before implementing it to the public.

Emergency Operations Center (EOC) head Cebu City Councilor Joel Garganera supported Rama’s proposal.

Rama said that the P20, 000 Christmas bonus is on top of the 13-month pay and it’s up to the City Government whether they will it grant it to employees or not. The move also aims to boost the local government’s vaccination program.

The city mayor made the measure because only 40% of the target population have received the vaccine. Around 290, 000 individuals out of the more than 700,000 target population have been fully vaccinated.

Cebu City’s latest government data recorded a total of 43, 023 COVID-19 cases, 41, 000 recoveries and 1, 300 deaths.
