Police Arrested China Man After Sending “Insulting” Meme

CHINA MAN ARRESTED – Authorities arrested a man identified as “Li” for sending a meme.

China has always been notorious for its censorship. And, just when you think it’s all fun and games, that’s when the police surprise you with a warrant of arrest.

According to reports, the man allegedly sent a meme on the Chinese social media platform, WeChat. Within the group chat, people complained about their local COVID-19 protocols.

Currently, China has a zero-COVID policy which led to officials bringing back lockdowns in an attempt to prevent its spread. Because of this, many of the residents expressed dismay and echoed their frustration.

But, instead of just sharing his opinion, Li, apparently, posted a meme that was too “insulting” for the police. Based on an article from CNN, the meme was just a cute dog in a police uniform pointing at the reader.

Due to this, police launched an investigation into the chat group that had over 300 members. Then, after the authorities found out about Li’s dissatisfaction with their COVID-19 protocols, he was summoned to the police station.

There, he “confessed to the illegal fact of insulting the police”. Meanwhile, the police say that Li was provoking trouble due to his meme.

“For such illegal acts, Qingtongxia Police Department always insists on ‘zero tolerance’ policy and resolutely punishes them according to the law to defend the authority of law enforcement and legal dignity of the police.”

Li was detained for 9 days because of his cute meme. Now, many protest Li’s punishment and argued that using a meme was hardly grounds for arrest.
