DOH To Focus On Pandemic Response Following Low Resilience Indexs Scores
DOH TO FOCUS ON RESPONSE – The Department of Health (DOH) said that it would focus on intensifying the Philippines’ pandemic response.
Recently, International Reports such as Bloomberg released their COVID-19 Resilience Ranking. Here, the Philippines placed last for the second consecutive year.
According to Health Undersecretary Maria Rosario Vergeire, this may be discouraging to some Filipinos. However, she assures the public that the DOH will be focusing on improving their COVID response.
Based on an article from Inquirer, Vergeire said:
We will always have different contexts. We cannot compare an apple with an orange. Hindi po pwedeng ganun. But the analysis is there, the research is there, tatanggapin po natin ‘yan, nandyan ‘yan, gagamitin natin kung ano mang mga punto ang sinasabi nila
However, she emphasized that the health department did not neglect its responsibility amid the COVID-19 pandemic. Furthermore, she noted that how the DOH’s response improved since last year.
Additionally, Vergeire cited that not all countries were included in the study. Moreover, she attributed the surge of Delta Variant cases in the Philippines as another factor to the low score.
Nonetheless, the health official emphasized that the country’s pandemic response has improved, with more testing laboratories, quarantine facilities, and immunization rates. According to Vergeire, the country’s case fatality rate has stayed lower than in other countries.
Currently, the Philippines has 50,630 active cases of COVID-19. As per the article, 74.1 percent are mild cases, 6.5 percent are asymptomatic, and 10.71 percent are moderate.
Meanwhile, hospitalization rates of intensive care units have lowered to 37% of isolation beds and 34% of wards and ventilators are currently used.
