Man Arrested After Removing Pixelated Parts Of Adult Video
MAN ARRESTED – Authorities arrested a man for removing pixelated parts of Adult Films using Artificial Intelligence (AI).
For the longest time, Japan has been extremely strict when it comes to censorship. Even when it comes to rauchy content, the country still applies these censorships in the form of pixelation.
As such, when you try to watch a Japanese adult film, you’d probably see pixelated you know what’s flopping around. But, how exactly did the man do it?
Using machine learning, the man managed to remove the pixelated parts and replace them with a predictive image. Here is an example of how it works:
The program studies the image and compares it with others. Afterward, it gradually predicts what pixel to replace with the blurred-out parts leading to an almost accurate image.
Unfortunately, the man, who was identified as Masayuki Nakamoto, 43, sold the videos to the public. As such, authorities charged him with violating the Copyright Act.
Afterward, the cops also charged him with displaying obscene electromagnetic record media. This was the first instance of a violation in the history of Japan. According to an article from Mainichi, Nakamoto’s violation was due to him uploading the videos to his personal website. Because of this, authorities said the videos were visible to an unspecified, large audience.
Police records revealed that Nakamoto began his website around November 2020. Furthermore, he used an AI model called “TecoGAN” to increase the resolution of pixelated images.
With this, he managed to process the videos to make it appear that no pixelation occurred. Apparently, he sold around 2,561 video files for a total of 11 million yen or around $96,000.
