Based on a report on ABS-CBN News, the boxer-turned-senator was with his wife, Jinkee Pacquiao, and his running-mate in the 2022 election, House Deputy Speaker Lito Atienza, when he visited Batangas. The Senator is running for president next year and Atienza will take the vice presidential race.

According to the report, Sen. Pacquiao confirmed that his camp gave the victims of the calamities money, groceries, and rice. He gave Php 1,000.00 each to around 7,000 in the area. The Senator stressed that many people came and it is really evident that many Filipinos are starving and are in need of help.

The event seemingly caught the attention of the Department of Interior and Local Government (DILG). According to Interior Secretary Eduardo Año, their agency will probe a candidate’s activity in Batangas after reports that it violated the health and safety protocols reached his office.

To this, the boxer-turned-senator expressed that the police helped in making sure that the people there are following the health protocols. He expressed that the police have placards with them that call for social distancing and they also remind the people to help the government by observing the proper health protocols.

“It happened lang talaga na sa dami ng taong pumunta… dun mo makikita na hirap na hirap ang mga tao. Nagugutom sila. Kailangan nila,” the Senator said.
