Kiko Pangilinan speaks about his VP bid against Tito Sotto
Senator Kiko Pangilinan revealed that he talked to Senate President Tito Sotto before he announced his vice presidential bid.
As early as last month, Sotto has already announced that he is running for Vice President next year as the running mate of Senator Ping Lacson. A day before the final day of the filing of the certificate of candidacy, Vice President Leni Robredo announced her presidential candidacy, and later that day, she filed her COC.
On October 8, Kiko Pangilinan filed his COC and this brought shock to the people in the camp of Tito Sotto. Ciara Sotto, the Senate President’s daughter was hurt by this decision of Megastar’s Sharon Cuneta’s husband. Ciara and Sharon are cousins. The Megastar herself was saddened by this political battle between the two men she greatly loves.
Based on the report from CNN Philippines, Kiko Pangilinan said that he is not also happy by this political competition between him and Tito Sotto but he was asked by the Vice President to be her running mate.
Pangilinan revealed that before he announced his candidacy, he had a conversation with Sotto. “Sabi niya ganyan talaga, nangyayari yan and I appreciate that. There was recognition that these things happen even if we prefer a set of different circumstances,” Pangilinan shared.
He also said that their family is just like other families that encounter conflicts and opposing views sometimes. However, he is hopeful that “there will be forgiveness and reconciliation for the hurts that may have been caused.” Kiko Pangilinan said that he and his wife Sharon Cuneta are praying for this.
In 2022, the tandem of Robredo and Pangilinan will go against the tandems of Manny Pacquiao-Lito Atienza, Isko Moreno-Willie Ong, Bato dela Rosa-Bong Go, and Bongbong Marcos whose running mate is not yet announced.
