Bong Go is aiming the second highest government position
Senator Bong Go has filed his certificate of candidacy for Vice Presiden as President Rodrigo Duterte has already announced his retirement from politics.
PDP-Laban, the faction of Energy Secretary Alfonso Cusi, initially endorsed PRRD for Vice President while Go was for President. The Chief Executive previously announced that he accepted the endorsement by his party.
However, as the filing of COC has started, Bong Go has filed for the second highest position. “As much as I wish to respond to the clamor of many of our partymates, I most respectfully decline the said endorsement. As I have said many times before, I am not interested in the presidency,” the Senator said, based on the article in PEP.
The President was also present when Go filed his COC at the Sofitel Harbor Garden Tent. After filing, they went up on stage to give their message. The Senator said that he has never aimed to be the president and now that PRRD withdraw his acceptance of nomination, he is taking on the challenge as the the candidate for vice-presidential of PDP-Laban.
“Napagdesisyunan kong tumakbo bilang bise-presidente sa darating na halalan upang maipagpatuloy ang magagandang programa at tunay na pagbabagong naumpisahan ni Pangulong Duterte at sisikapin nating dagdagan pa ang mga ito,” the lawmaker said.
President Duterte supports the candidacy of Bong Go. The Chief Executive mentioned in his statement that the public is stressing that he wll be violating the Constitution if he runs for Vice President. He said that he is listening to the sentiments of the Filipinos regarding this matter.
With this, he announced his retirement. “Today, I announce my retirement from politics. Salamat po sa inyong lahat,” President Duterte said.
