Manny Pacquiao’s Cyber Libel Case is “Political Move”- Quiboloy Lawyer

Lawyer Claims Cyber Libel Case of Manny Pacquiao vs Quiboloy is Political Move

The lawyer of the so-called “Appointed Son of God” Pastor Apollo C. Quiboloy has claimed that the cyber libel case filed by Manny Pacquiao is for his political move.

During a press conference in Davao City on Tuesday, lawyer Dinah Marie Tolentino, a lawyer for the Kingdom of Jesus Christ, read an official statement from Quiboloy’s legal team in response to Pacquiao’s filing of a cyber libel complaint at the Makati City prosecutor’s office, which was broadcast on social media.

Quiboloy Case Political

When questioned if the legal action has anything to do with the 2022 election, Tolentino stated that the camp only makes intelligent assumptions and believes that the filing of the case is part of Pacquiao’s political plan, despite the fact that it is already September and the elections are next year. Pacquiao has expressed interest in running for president in 2022.

The lawsuit, according to Pacquiao, originated from Quiboloy’s television appearance and social media post in which he alleged the senator had misappropriated funds for the unfinished Sarangani Sports Training Center. Pacquiao claimed P100 million in damages from Quiboloy for disseminating the “fabricated” charges.

Quiboloy’s attorneys stated that the priest “is ready to reply to the allegations against him,” but that they have yet to get a copy of Pacquiao’s cyber libel complaint. President Rodrigo Duterte considers Quiboloy to be a personal friend.

“We maintain that every citizen has the right to inquire, to hear, to speak, and make commentaries about the actions of public officials. The interest of society and the maintenance of good government demand a full discussion of public affairs,” the statement from Quiboloy’s camp said.

“In a democratic society, public officials like Senator Manny Pacquiao should expect criticisms and critical evaluation of their performances from the citizens whom they are expected to serve,” the statement added.

Quiboloy, according to his counsel, never made any accusations against the good Senator. However, it just posed a query about it on behalf of those who wished to know more.

“The complaint of Senator Manny Pacquiao may be considered as retaliatory and a political move on his part considering that the election is coming,” they added.
